Kantara Castle is a medieval fortress located located just east of Tatlisu. It is situated at an altitude of 630 meters and is one of the three major castles in the region, along with St. Hilarion Castle and Buffavento Castle.

The castle was built by the Byzantines in the 10th century and was later expanded and renovated by the Lusignans and Venetians. Its strategic location allowed it to serve as an important lookout point for the island’s defenses against Arab raids. During the Ottoman period, it was used as a prison and a watchtower.

Today, Kantara Castle is a popular tourist destination in Northern Cyprus, offering visitors the opportunity to explore its ancient ruins and learn about the island’s history.
